Area Reports - Summer 2009
Austin
The Austin Area group has been very busy this year. We have had a good turnout for our events.
We had another good turnout and great time at the Brenham Maifest on May 9th. The Texas Exes from Washington County always treat us like royalty. If you have never been you should try to make it next year. It is always fun and they have lots of good food. They also give us a very generous $350.00 donation.
On May 23rd we again played for the NISOD and Community College Leadership Program Fandango which is coordinated by our own, Dr. Coral Noonan-Terry. We have done this event for the past few years and again have a good time and they also give a very generous $500.00 donation.
We also played for the Rise School Sportsman Kickoff Dinner on July 30th. This event is strongly supported by Coach Brown and his wife and the rest of the Athletics Department.
On August 26th we were invited to play for the press conference announcing the partnership of Jet Blue Air Lines as a sponsor for UT Athletics. This event was in the morning in the middle of the work week but we had a good turnout in spite of that. Many thanks to all those who arranged their workday schedules to come out and play for this event. They also are donating $500.00 to the scholarship fund.
We are now starting back playing our pep rallies for the UT Club every Friday night before home games. Our first rally was September 4th. We always have a great turnout for this event. There are plenty of appetizers, drinks and time to socialize. Come out and join us. The other rally dates are September 18th and 25th, October 9th and November 6th and 20th. Thanks for all of the folks who have helped with these events.

Houston
The Houston area LHAB provided eager volunteers for two Houston area events this summer. The first was in June 2009, the 50th anniversary party gig sponsored by LHAB member Roy Ferguson honoring his parents. The event featured over 20 Houston area band members, as well as volunteers from around the state. Thanks to Roy’s generous donation, over $2000 was raised for the LHAB scholarship fund. Thank you again to everyone who participated in this event!
The second event was our annual appearance at the Houston area Senior Sendoff. Tom Staton did a great job of rallying the troops while Andre Sylvester was doing a summer detail at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama. Our efforts were well received, and the Houston Texas Exes provided a $500 donation to the scholarship fund.
