It’s hard to believe that Longhorn Football Season is already here… and we still have several weeks before Band Day! By the time we set foot in DKR Texas Memorial Stadium, we’ll have over half of the season behind us. PLEASE READ this entire edition of The BLAST as it contains almost everything you need to know to plan a fantastic weekend November 6 and 7 when the Horns take on University of Central Florida. We will know the exact schedule within a week or two of the 7th, but check the website regularly, and we’ll blast out the schedule as soon as we know it.
As was mentioned in the last BLAST, this year will hopefully mark the start of a new LHAB Tradition - The Friday Family Fun Night in the North End Zone concourse of DKR Texas Memorial Stadium! This year’s Officers team is hard at work putting together a great evening for everyone who would like to attend... We’ll have a separate ticket available for this new evening that will include dinner, kid’s activities, and some special surprises. Of course, the Business Meeting and Playing Rehearsal are still FREE, so join us even if you don’t plan to stay and eat. Here are a few other new things for you to check out and consider for Band Day Weekend:
- We have a hotel room block reserved at the Marriott Courtyard in downtown Austin at a great rate of $169/night if you make your reservation by October 15th. One king size bed and two queen size bed options are available. Call 1-800-321-2211 and ask for the Longhorn Alumni Band rate.
- We will have our Business Meeting and Playing Rehearsal in the North End Zone stands this year! Limited childcare will be available at the kid activities, and there will be lots to do. We will recognize our 2009 Scholarship Recipients at this meeting, as well. The list of recipients can be found on the website and they will be printed in the Band Day programs.
- Music will be posted shortly on the LHAB website, and downloadable with your login and password. Check it out and get started practicing!
- See inside for information about guest tickets and a seating chart. This year, you can buy guest tickets through registration and they’re in the section next to us!
- Also see inside for how you can join us even if you are not able to make the Saturday rehearsal.
- And keep reading for information on uniform, instrument checkout, PARKING and anything else you can think of!
This year’s show is being charted by our own Rosendo Sanchez and will be taught by Don Haynes. Thanks to both of them for already putting in some hours on our behalf! We will be marching in a doublechevron form and then meeting the LHB for a joint halftime honoring our veterans, as Veteran’s Day is the following week.
