From LHB…

Dear Longhorn Alumni Band:

Well, it’s been one year since my arrival and I have to say that my impression of LHAB is even more positive now, than it was a year ago! The warmth with which I was met last summer has continued all season long. The letters and emails of support for me and the performances of LHB last year have been extremely gratifying and appreciated. I hope our performances in the future warrant your continued support!

I was very proud of the students who comprised last year’s Longhorn Band, they worked hard, endured two new directors and all the mistakes we made, and performed very well every time out of the box! And while last year’s band was very good, my expectations for this year’s band are even higher. We have appointed an excellent student leadership staff this year that will be charged with developing an even higher standard of excellence within their respective sections. Whether its rehearsal ethic, conduct, performance, or showing our UT spirit and pride, every aspect of what we do has room for improvement. I can’t wait to get started after this long summer of preparation!

The shows for this season are also exciting. Several of this year’s show themes were decided upon by a group of LHB students who served on the Creative Team Committee. We had numerous meetings in the spring semester and narrowed down our ideas to a few, then incorporated an online poll open to all LHB members to make the final decisions. This year’s shows include: Script Texas (of course!); two shows arranged by Randy Bass, a "Latin American" show and a show based on the musical "Chicago"; a "75th Anniversary of the Oscars" show featuring a medley of movie scores ranging from The Sound of Music to Casablanca to Lord of the Rings and more in between; and, for Veterans Day, a Patriotic show with a USO slant featuring tunes made famous by Bob Hope. As a special event this year, everyone in DKR will be treated to a performance "Wall to Wall Band" during halftime of the K-State game!

I hope this letter finds you well and I sincerely hope your plans this fall include a trip to Austin for Alumni Band Day on September 27. I sincerely enjoyed meeting many of you last year and look forward to seeing you again as well as meeting even more LHAB members!

All the best and Hook ‘em!
