The Rest of the Story
During my 4 years as a student in LHB from 1958-1962 we played the Aggies at Kyle Field twice. We were required to park a few blocks away and march to the stadium. Each time we had to stop and wait about 15 minutes at the stadium gate. Being a clarinet player (rear of the band), I always wondered why we had to wait, but never bothered to ask Mr. D. The story resumes in 1970 during the years that I was Assistant Director of LHB. Now I am marching in at the front of the band. As we approach the Pass Gate, the old man who is the gatekeeper says to Mr. D, "Who are you?" Mr. D very patiently replies, "We're the University of Texas Band. We have a game here today." The old man says, "Just a minute; let me check." He walks away, is gone the requisite 15 minutes, returns and says, "It's OK; come in." It was evidently some retired Aggie who took delight in "hassling" the teasips. It happened EVERY year we played at Kyle Field.
