It is with great sadness that we share the news of the deaths of two longtime LHAB colleagues.

Van Evers Kirkpatrick, 95, passed away on February 27, 2014.  Kirkpatrick entered UT and the LHB in 1936, a talented trumpet player and was charter member and first president of the UT chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi.  He served in the army during WWII and had a career as a high school band director at several schools in Texas and managed Kelly Music in Corpus Christi.  His daughter, Karen, son-in-law, Max Werkenthin III, and grandson, Max Werkenthin IV are LHB alumni as well.

Wally Pryor, 86, was the longtime “Voice of the Longhorns” and of the Longhorn Band halftime shows during the Darrell Royal and continued until 2000.  In 1977, Pryor was named to the Longhorn Hall of Honor for his announcing work, his time as a 1949 All-American swimmer on the university’s water polo team, his two years of participation on the conference championship swim teams, and his promotional work as an emcee at numerous university charity events.

Our condolences go to the families and friends of these men, whose contributions will be remembered for ages to come.
