Hello Newest and Veteran Alums!
Being accepted as Longhorn Band member was probably one of the greatest opportunities you experienced during your time at UT. It provided you with a lifetime of memories, friendships, networking skills and for some of your soul mate. Now Longhorn Alumni Band needs you to serve.
We are looking for people with fresh ideas, commitment to excellence, UT spirit, and can collaborate with the young and veteran alumni.
The volunteering term is for only one year, once a month, for about an hour. You can even hold a position and not live in the Austin area. Closer to Alumni Band day the meetings tend to be slightly longer until things are accomplished. The committee is accepting nominations for the 2016 year.
(You can find even more details at www.lhab.org under leadership tab— job descriptions.) I hope to hear from many of you soon.
Please feel free to email the nominating committee or myself with questions.
JoLyn Peters (Chair of Nominating Committee)
Best of luck to you in all your endeavors,
LHAB President 2015
The bylaws committee has been diligently working since January to revise our bylaws & polices. Below is a link to the final draft of the revisions. Please take some time to review these. At our annual business meeting on Sept. 18th a vote by the membership is required to accept these changes. You’ll also have an opportunity to ask questions during that portion of the meeting or if you’d like submit your questions to any of the committee members beforehand. Those members are:
Leah Ray Mabry (Chair)
Scott Hendrix (ex-officio)
Donna Beth McCormick
The Houston Chapter of LHAB played an annual event for the Houston Texas Exes. The Exes spring fund raiser is held at the River Oaks Country Club in March or April. It is a fun event with silent and live auctions and this year we enjoyed dinner with the Exes. We closed the event with the Eyes of Texas and Texas Fight.
We also played for a memorial service for Judge John Singleton. Judge Singleton was a UT graduate, a former Cowboy, and a Cheerleader during his years at Texas. He had asked his wife to see if we would play at his service after hearing us play at Louis M. Pearce’s service in January of 2013.
Our appearance at Judge Singleton’s memorial service resulted in an invitation to play at a meeting of the Forty Acres Society held at a private home. We played as the guests arrived and then led the group in the Eyes and Texas Fight.
We have received donations to our scholarship fund for all appearances.
We have been invited to play for a 50th birthday party on July 18th at the Magnolia Hotel. Still working on this one.
Houston Area Representative
Dear Alumni Band,
Dr. Scott Hanna, LHB director, is out of town on vacation. Below is a copy of the letter he sent to the LHB members with all the new staff updates. We look forward to working with all the new faculty and staff for Band Day and supporting LHB.

Dear Longhorn Band members,
Hello from Austin! I hope that your summer is going well. Below is some news regarding LHB that I want to share with you. Lots of great things happening, so read on!
NEW FACULTY AND STAFF – We have a number of new faces on our team!
Mr. Joshua Gall, Assistant to the Director of Bands; Assistant Director of the Longhorn Band; Director of the Pep Band
Mr. Gall joins us from the University of Florida, where he is pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Instrumental Conducting and Music Education. A native of Virginia, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University, and Master’s Degree in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Florida. Professor Gall has extensive experience with athletic bands, and brings a wide variety of professional experiences to our program. (And yes, he is the brother of current teaching assistant Luke Gall!)
Ms. Alexandra Gotliboski, Administrative Associate
Ms. Gotliboski joins us in the University Bands office, and comes to us from the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston. She is a graduate of the Moody College of Communication, and comes from a family of proud Longhorns! She has jumped into her work with both feet, and has made an immediate positive impact on our program. We are very happy to have her join our team!

While Ms. Botbol is no stranger to LHB, we are overjoyed to announce that she has now joined our team as a full-time employee of the Butler School of Music! In addition to all of her wonderful work with our Silks and Big Flags, she will work on the administration of our summer music camps and of all of the University Bands program.
SHOWS FOR FALL 2015 – We are very happy to announce some of the shows that will be performed by the 2015-2016 Edition of the Showband of the Southwest! In addition to all of our traditional shows, we have some great new performances in store for the Longhorn faithful!

The LHABCT, better known as the BOT, has two vacancies to be elected at Band Day.
One is a 2-year term and one is a 3-year term. We are soliciting nominees.
The BOT meets quarterly and manages the scholarship funds, sets up the guidelines for the scholarships, manages the scoring, and other duties that involve the awarding of the LHB scholarships. You do need to be available and attend the meetings. We also keep a record of contributions and award the various plaque categories.
If you are interested, please email Donna Beth McCormick, President of the BOT (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Scott Hendrix, President of the Board of Directors (email@example.com).
Once again, it’s time to redesign the archives cabinets at the band hall.
This year’s topics will include a tribute to Mr. DiNino, a display about the recent trip to London and possibly a tribute to Big Bertha’s 60th birthday.
If you have any pictures, mementos or other items relating to these topics that we can put in the cabinet to share with everyone. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org
by July 30th!
